“MOVING TARGETS: 3 Interpretations Of Murder”
In 1999, MultiStages was invited to the Sackett Group’s Women’s Work Festival held at Primary Stages.
MultiStages created a dramatization of three narrative poems by Nuyorican poet Gloria Vando.
Ensemble: Gena Bardwell, David Cho, Veronica Cruz, Antonia Ferrara, Tanya Perez and Carlos Diaz Serapion. Choreographed by Modern Dance Choreographer Jennifer Chin and Director Lorca Peress.
Viet Nam/Burn Imagery: Based on Huynh Cong Ut’s 1973 Pulitzer Prize Photograph, “The Terror of War,” depicting children in flight from a napalm bombing. The speaker is the Pilot in a vocal duet with a voice over of the official Burn Imagery Transcript.
Cante Jondo: An interpretation on the Execution of Federico Garcia Lorca who is awaken from a dream by the storming of Franco’s Falanges who wrest him from his lover. Lorca is Spain’s beloved poet and playwright. Presented in Spanish/English with stylized Flamenco.
Lydia’s Phantasmagoria: Based on the true story of Puerto Rican soap opera diva, Lydia Echevarria, who had her husband assassinated for sleeping with another actress. Life imitated art in this true saga. Lydia is was sentenced to a federal penitentiary in Puerto Rico. This dramatic piece includes stylized rape and revengeful murder.
